Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) – the Capita WAN router dynamically allocates IP addresses within a specified range from the router that connects the School LAN to the Council WAN, enabling support services to connect directly to your computers for support.  Academies may choose as an alternative to provide their own DHCP server within their LAN.

Domain Name Service (DNS) Management - The Domain Name Service (DNS) is the way in which the network address of your Schools Internet services are given a reader-friendly name. The solution provides your school with the service to manage your school’s website presence on the Internet allowing it to be located by parents, learners and staff using its domain name (e.g. Myschool.w-sussex.sch.uk).  Although this service is invisible to the lay-person, it is an essential for the School to maintain an Internet presence.

Network access configuration changes - details on how to request changes to the West Sussex Schools’ firewall, for purposes of allowing external access to/from a school LAN can be found on West Sussex Services for Schools website.
