The West Sussex Schools Forum acts as a consultative body on some issues and a decision making body on others.
Schools Forum considers proposals drawn up by WSCC to allocate the Dedicated Schools Grant (DSG) which is earmarked for the provision of education in schools and academies, early years settings and to support pupils with SEND high needs.
The Council must consult the Schools Forum on any proposed changes to the Schools Block formula. The Schools Forum gives a view on:
arrangements for pupils with special educational needs; arrangements for use of pupil referral units and education of children otherwise than at school; arrangements for early years provision; administration arrangements for allocation of central government grants.
The Schools Forum has decision making powers on:
de-delegation of funding for centrally provided services; central spending on criteria and allocation of the growth fund; central spend on early years; central spend on admissions; central spend on combined budgets
Schools Forum meets in Jan, March, June, October and December each year.
Membership includes Governors, Headteachers from maintained schools and academies as well as representatives from early years providers, FE colleges, Dioceses and unions. WSCC officers attend meetings to present reports. Non Schools Forum membership includes representatives from universities and business, skills and enterprise.
